I am an Assistant Professor at the Department of Media and Journalism Studies at the University of Groningen (the Netherlands). I have previously held positions as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Social Media Lab (Toronto, Canada), as a Visiting Scholar at the Political Science Department of the University of California in Santa Barbara (Santa Barbara, United States), and as a PhD Researcher at the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (Barcelona, Spain).
My research and teaching interests lie at the intersection of digital communication networks and social change, with a particular interest in online environmental politics. In my works, I combine the methods of network science and computational social science with theories of communication studies.
My research has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Information, Communication & Society, New Media & Society, Social Science Computer Review, International Journal of Communication, Social Media + Society, Sustainability, Convergence, Journal of Learning, Media, and Technology, Policy & Internet, Javnost-The Public, and Journal of Information Technology & Politics (among others).
I have received grants from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research, the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, the Netherlands eScience Center and the Digital Humanities Centre and RIS/ Data Science Centre at the University of Groningen, and scholarships from the Volkswagen Foundation, the Ryerson University, the Open University of Catalonia, and the University of Quebec in Montreal.
